Hello, sweet friends! I am honored to be guest designing today at Frilly and Funkie! ♥︎ This is such a treat. I admire their artists, who richly inspire with every post. If you don't yet follow them, I strongly encourage you to do so. Thank you for having me, ladies!
Kathy's theme of "By the Sea!" inspired a frilly wall hanging. I made this for a teen cancer warrior whose special place is the great expanse of the sea. Sadly she has been left blind from brain cancer, but we know the magic of the ocean... it need not be seen to be felt. ♥︎
Kathy's theme of "By the Sea!" inspired a frilly wall hanging. I made this for a teen cancer warrior whose special place is the great expanse of the sea. Sadly she has been left blind from brain cancer, but we know the magic of the ocean... it need not be seen to be felt. ♥︎
This gift is intended to whisk her away to nature's beauty, where wishes are whispered into the sea. Rough, yet beautiful, waters release into the whimsical sky... where everything has turned rosy with healing love. ♥︎
The waves are stenciled with colored Crackle Paste, making them Salt Water Taffy pink as they carry a special wish. ♥︎ It is a small part of the Memory Box Flourish stencil, while the turbulent waters are created with Joy! Crafts Lattice Edge die. White sandy beaches inspired my choice of pure white Wild Orchid Crafts flowers, which are dusted with sparkling sunbeams. Seashells and pearls are nestled within... sweet gifts from the sea.
Wycinanka chipboard pieces are covered in Shabby White Frantage for touches of sunny gold. The foliage part of the Louvre frame is instead painted with Crackle Paste, this time colored with Sea Grass Green. For coloring my crackle paste, I used Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals in Nantucket Pearls (I am so in love.). A wispy ocean breeze engulfs my little scene, created with two types of ruffly trims. Butterflies and pearls accent it for extra sweetness.
Texture reigns so she will have much to explore as she sees this gift through her touch. I pray she loves it. ♥︎ Most of my project was created with goodies from Live & Love Crafts.
Thank you for visiting and I wish you a sparkly day. :o)

Oh Karen, I was so excited to see your name on the posting list this morning! This is just a beauty of a take on our By the Sea challenge at Frilly and Funkie, and what a special treat to have you as our Guest Designer for extra inspiration!! I just love what you did with that wood chippie, it sure makes a great base for your lovely water and amazing waves! The crackle texture works so well for added texture, and all that frilly tulle is shabby-licious! I do hope you are feeling a little bit better lately, the blog world is a little less inviting when you're not in it. Sending healing wishes and hugs my friend :)

ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful wall hanging, Karen! The ocean is a very peaceful and calming place and it is such a thoughtful gesture to create something so beautiful for someone who loves the ocean and who is going through something so difficult. Art is healing in so many ways not only in sight but, at times, in touch as well. Thanks for sharing your talent with us on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge.

ReplyDeleteDear Karen, I hope you are feeling better; it saddens me to know you are hurting. I always enjoy seeing your lovely craeations, but I also really enjoy reading about them! This time, although I had to see your beautiful depiction of the sea in order to read the post, I tried to close my eyes and "see" your creation based on your words. I thought since this cancer warrior had lost her sight, it might be great if you could tell her just what you wrote here. That is sure to help heal here and give me much to be grateful for. You are awesome to make these lovely treasures for the many wonderful people who are in such a tragic position. I know you bring so much love and faith to them...Bless you!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite details are the waves. This is a fabulously detailed work of art, so full of tactile elements that this sweet girl will be able to "see" with her hands. So thoughtful of you!
Congratulations on your Guest spot at Frilly and Funkie; I know it must have been hard for you to take on the extra work while you aren't feeling well, so I am even more appreciative! Big hugs!
This is gorgeous, Karen. It makes me want to try making one. Just lovely. Thanks so much for sharing your talents with us.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed week,
Karen
