Hello, sweet friends! I am thankful for all of you! I'm posting on the Live & Love Crafts blog today to share my take on Sandy's weekly theme of Summer: Sun, Sand, and Sea.
Also, I am truly honored to be a Guest Designer for Crafty Boots Challenges! They are a lovely group, brimming with encouragement and creativity. The current challenge is Father's Day or Masculine, which you can enter here! I highly recommend playing along at their wonderful blog. It quickly became a favorite of mine and remains as such. :o)
Masculine cards are always a challenge, but Pion Design's Shoreline Treasures offers the perfect color palette and designs to ease the pain. ;) With Father's Day only a couple of weeks away, I used this opportunity to create a shaped card for my superhero dad. :o)

Masculine cards are always a challenge, but Pion Design's Shoreline Treasures offers the perfect color palette and designs to ease the pain. ;) With Father's Day only a couple of weeks away, I used this opportunity to create a shaped card for my superhero dad. :o)
The deep browns and blues in Shoreline Treasures are gorgeous and felt perfect for a sailboat. I used each of the 6x6 sheets in the collection for various components, including the pretty wave flourish cut file from the Silhouette Online Store. The die-cut Heart Banner is from La-La Land Crafts and the Gold Finch is from Memory Box.
The shipping wheel (also a cut file from the SOS) is adorned with Shabby White 6mm jingle bells and one of my favorite LLC charms: pearl oyster. They are secured together with a triple bow of jute twine. Since Sandy's new shells haven't yet arrived, I fussy cut several from a tag on the Warm Breeze sheet. The anchor is also from that sheet. The jute-trimmed shell strip along the top of the ship is one of the gorgeous borders from the Dragonfly sheet.
I continue to adore Maya Road metal embellishments! Previously I used the Love Hanger and Love Heart Clips... today I'm using the Love Pennant Clips. As I was contemplating what to use for the ship's banner, my eyes landed upon this sweet clip! I tucked it beneath my woven jute twine to guide my love to my dad. :o) The Bark Star adds amazing texture which I was looking for in the absence of flowers and trims.
The Father's Day specific greeting is reserved for the interior. I want all of his days to be filled with sunshine, so I used a border tidbit from Dragonfly for the front. :o)
Before I flutter off, here's my tip for Top Tip Tuesday: Never be afraid to try a new theme or technique! Masculine scared me, but I let my superhero dad and crafty supplies inspire me.
Thank you for sailing on by! Have a beautiful weekend. :o)

ReplyDeleteHi, Karen,
ReplyDeleteIf I try to address all the design element so this project, I would be here typing for another 40 minutes, so let me just sum it all up by saying that this design in not just graphically beautiful, the composition of this design is outstanding. The way the shapes play off each other and the manner in which the wrapped twine on the mast pulls your eye to the center with disrupting the overall visua impact is just genius. I love Pion Papers and I sure hope I can get my hands on this particular collection....it is beautiful. Outstanding work. Thanks for playing along with us at 613 Avenue Create! Your visit has left us all in awe!

You must have the BEST superhero dad, Karen, if he inspired you to make this utterly magnificent masculine card! The fine attention to detail and impeccable execution flabbergast me, truly!! It would take me 73 hours to make card art like this and I know he will cherish it always!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteHi Karen,
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely AMAZING!! I love all of the details on this FANTASTIC card. I come across when making a masculine card that I don't know how to embellish or what can I use.For a feminine card its so easy to add ribbon, peals & rhinestones. Funny thing that when I do make a masculine card I am not happy with it.But you inspired me with the wonderful details on your card to make one....I will try. Maybe for a boy..LOL. Yes, I truly believe that your DAD is a SUPERHERO and he does deserve this card and he will LOVE it! I DO! I am completely amazed the detail of the die-cut Heart Banner and the bark star! STUNNING and still SPEECHLESS! I love the sea shells..ADORABLE!
Your DAD is a SUPERHERO and you are SUPER AWESOME!! Yeap! That's right..LOL
Sending you TONS of my love, hugs & smiles

ReplyDeleteMasculine cards are indeed very difficult to make, but this is absolutely fabulous! And it's got to be one of the best nautical cards I've ever seen! Such fantastic use of the papers, and your creative mind is present throughout the whole card. I love how you turned the heart banner upside down and your use of the love pennant. I think you made your dad very happy. :-)
